Position Summary The Custodian supports daily shelter operations by providing housekeeping, sanitation, and facility services that promote the health, safety, and well-being of guests, staff, volunteers, and community partners. Core Responsibilities Facility Cleaning & Housekeeping Work with other shelter staff to ensure the shelter and work areas remain clean, organized, and well-maintained, Prepare shower facilities for the daily opening of the Shower & Laundry Program. Clean and sanitize guests, staff, and public restrooms, ensuring toilet paper, paper towels, soap, and other supplies are stocked. Clean and maintain guest sleeping areas, including bed frames, lockers, floors, and making beds as needed. Sweep, mop, vacuum, and maintain common areas, Navigation & Engagement Center spaces, offices, hallways, and other designated areas. Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of interior and exterior glass doors and windows as part of routine housekeeping responsibilities. Empty trash receptacles throughout the facility and transport waste to designated disposal areas. Perform routine housekeeping duties to maintain a clean, safe, sanitary, and welcoming environment throughout the shelter. Perform routine deep cleaning tasks as required including power-washing outside smoking area and porch. In coordination with shelter staff and volunteers, assist in collecting, laundering, dry, folding, and distributing towels, bed linens, and blankets as needed. Maintain adequate supplies of clean linens and towels to support daily shelter operations. Inventory & Supply Management In coordination with the Facilities Advocate and Operations Manager, assist with maintaining an adequate inventory of cleaning supplies, paper products, linens, and other janitorial materials needed to support daily shelter operations. Organize and maintain janitorial storage areas to ensure supplies are accessible, properly stored, and used efficiently. Collaborations Work with the Facilities Advocate on minor housekeeping and facility maintenance as assigned. Report maintenance concerns, equipment issues, safety hazards, or supply needs to the Operations Manager. Work collaboratively with volunteer coordinator and advocate staff to support housekeeping, laundry, and facility activities as assigned.
