A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Job Description

Winterwood, Inc. is hiring for the role of Janitor. The Janitor plays a key role in maintaining the daily cleanliness, curb appeal, and physical condition of the apartment community. This position combines routine custodial duties with basic light maintenance—to ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all residents.

Full-time (40 hours per week)
Work Schedule:
Monday-Friday 8:30 AM-5:00
PM Compensation:
$20.00-$22.00 per hour based on experience

Qualifications:
Previous janitorial or custodial experience required (residential, commercial, or industrial). Working knowledge of light general maintenance (minor repairs). Knowledge of proper cleaning techniques and use of cleaning chemicals/equipment. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Must be physically able to lift up to 50 lbs., bend, stoop, climb stairs/ladders, and stand for extended periods. Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and safety. Valid driver's license, reliable transportation and punctuality required. Willingness and ability to successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening and criminal background check.
Job Responsibilities:
Perform routine cleaning of common areas including lobbies, hallways, stairwells, restrooms, laundry rooms, offices, and recreational areas. Sweep, mop, scrub, wax, and polish floors as needed; vacuum and shampoo carpets. Clean and disinfect restrooms, fixtures, and high-touch surfaces. Empty trash and recycling bins and dispose of waste properly. Restock supplies such as paper products, soap, and sanitizers. Maintain cleanliness of exterior property areas, including sidewalks, parking lots, and entrances. Assist with seasonal upkeep, including sidewalk snow removal, and de-icing. Perform basic light maintenance and minor repairs (e.g., replacing light bulbs/fixtures, changing or tightening loose hardware). Monitor property condition and promptly report safety hazards, major maintenance issues, or supply needs to the supervisor. Ensure janitorial closets and equipment are kept clean and in good working order. Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, work order procedures, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements when performing cleaning, repair, or maintenance duties.
