A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Job Description
The mission of the Louisiana Veterans Homes is to primarily serve the veteran population of Louisiana through the provision of medical, restorative, and rehabilitative services in an atmosphere of respect and compassion. The primary objective of the home is to provide quality nursing care to eligible veterans with the ultimate goal of returning the veterans to the highest possible levels of physical and mental capacity. We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Custodian/Housekeeper to clean on a daily basis, mop, disinfect, dust, and sweep assigned areas. To also strip, buff, wax, and disinfect floors in an assigned area on a regular basis using required industrial machinery. Six months of experience in custodial, housekeeping, groundskeeping, or food service work. The official job specifications for this role, as defined by the State Civil Service, can be found here .
Job Duties:
Clean contaminated trash bins & contaminated trash Decontaminate patient rooms, restrooms, and isolation rooms that contain biohazardous waste such as blood, urine, feces, and used needles. Dispose of infectious waste when necessary and document that proper procedures were followed. Report deficiencies such as paint peeling, water leaks in faucets/toilets, bugs in light covers, broken equipment, etc.
