Summary:
The Custodian is directly responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, orderly, and welcoming environment throughout all Ascension facilities. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, sweeping and mopping floors, hallways, passages, and stairwells; cleaning windows and other surfaces; cleaning and sanitizing restroom fixtures, including toilets, sinks, and stalls; restocking restroom supplies such as toilet paper and paper towels; and regularly inspecting campus facilities and grounds for trash, debris, or other conditions requiring attention. The Facilities Manager will provide the Custodian with a comprehensive list of job responsibilities, daily and periodic cleaning assignments, and performance expectations. The Custodian is expected to follow established cleaning procedures, maintain appropriate standards of cleanliness, and promptly communicate maintenance, safety, or facility concerns to the appropriate supervisor. As needed, the Custodian may also assist with minor groundskeeping, setup, moving, and basic maintenance-related tasks as assigned by the Facilities Manager. This position requires the ability to perform the physical demands of custodial work, including standing, walking, bending, lifting, carrying, and working for extended periods. The successful candidate should demonstrate good communication skills, reliability, attention to detail, initiative, and a general knowledge of how to maintain a safe, clean, and well-functioning school environment. This particular position is posted for the Upper School Gym on the Youngsville Campus. A background check conducted by the school's business office is required for employment in this position. The position also involves standard physical demands necessary to perform the essential duties of the job, including frequent walking and navigating up and down stadium and bleacher seating. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Primary Activities Performs all assigned custodial duties in a prompt, professional, and workmanlike manner. Maintains assigned facilities and areas in accordance with established Ascension standards for cleanliness, safety, and appearance. Routinely provides support services as requested by Ascension faculty and staff, including moving furniture, assisting with event setups and breakdowns, and supporting the construction or setup of theatre sets and other school activities. Assists with minor groundskeeping and maintenance-related tasks as assigned. Identifies and promptly reports facility, maintenance, safety, or supply concerns to the Lead Custodian or Facilities Site Manager. Maintains appropriate care and use of custodial equipment, supplies, and school property. Reporting and Supervision Receives daily assignments and direction from the Facilities Manager. Responds to emergency or time-sensitive custodial needs as directed by the Manager. Provides support to faculty and staff when requested, while maintaining appropriate communication and following established procedures. Completes assigned tasks and communicates any unfinished work, concerns, or needed follow-up to the appropriate supervisor. Education and/or Experience High school diploma or GED preferred. Previous custodial, housekeeping, facilities, groundskeeping, or related experience preferred. Ability to learn and appropriately use Ascension's computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to receive, complete, and document assigned work orders and support services. Basic proficiency with email and electronic messaging for communication while working in the field. First Aid and CPR certification may be required upon hire or within a designated period of employment. Successful completion of required pre-employment screening. Language and Communication Skills Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with Ascension faculty, staff, students, vendors, contractors, and members of the school community. Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions. Ability to communicate facility concerns, safety issues, supply needs, and work completion to the appropriate supervisor. Transportation Must have dependable transportation to and from work. Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain required automobile insurance if driving an Ascension-owned or personal vehicle for school business.
