The Opportunity:
The Junior Custodian reports to the Senior Building Custodian and is responsible for performing the following duties: cleaning and sanitary maintenance of the building; care and maintenance of the school grounds; and performing related work as required. Examples of duties include, but are not limited to the following: Sweeping, dusting, mopping, scrubbing, waxing, and polishing; making minor repairs and adjustments Cleaning and care of floors (wood, concrete, vinyl tile), walls (plaster, wood, cinder block), windows, light fixtures, toilets, wash bowls, and building furnishings and equipment Using hand tools and large cleaning equipment, such as vacuums, carpet extractors, burnishers, and floor washing machines, etc. Replacing light bulbs and ceiling tiles using ladders, lifts, and scaffolds Care and maintenance of school grounds, including litter pickup and removal, sweeping of walks, removal of snow and ice, raking, mowing, and watering grass where designated, requiring the use of hand and power lawn mowers, rakes, snow blowers, and shovels
Inspecting the school building(s) to determine the necessity for maintenance work and submitting work orders
Checking deliveries of fuel
Displaying the flag of the United States according to custom
Eliminating fire hazards and preventing accidents
Your Skill Set:
The Junior Custodian is responsible for maintaining a high level of cleanliness and sanitation as directed by the Senior Custodian and in accordance with school and district-wide cleaning standards. You will possess the following characteristics and qualifications:
Cleaning Proficiency:
Mastery of core cleaning tasks like sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, and sanitizing various surfaces.
Equipment Knowledge:
Skill in operating and maintaining cleaning tools and machinery, including floor buffers, vacuums, and power washers.
Chemical Handling:
Ability to safely handle, mix, and use a variety of cleaning chemicals and supplies. Attention to
Detail:
Meticulousness in cleaning to ensure thoroughness and high-quality results.
Time Management:
Ability to organize daily tasks, create efficient schedules, and manage unexpected situations.
Safety Awareness:
Thorough knowledge of occupational health and safety rules, including OSHA standards, to prevent accidents.
Work Ethic:
A strong commitment to quality, reliability, and a diligent approach to work.
Independence:
The ability to work with minimal supervision, showing self-motivation and responsibility.
Terms of Employment:
40 hours per week, 12 months per year. Must have the ability to occasionally work outside of the scheduled hours and on weekends.
