A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.
It is the responsibility of the janitor to keep all buildings clean and orderly. Maintain grounds without trash, dust, wash windows and glass doors. Clean restrooms, cafeteria rooms daily or as needed, vacuum floors in all office areas. Replace trash liners as necessary, and dispose of trash in office areas. Clean sinks at least daily with liquid cleaner. Clean labs, offices, utility rooms, hallways, lobbies, corridors, stairways, and other work areas. Provide the Department Supervisor with janitor supplies requisition form as needed to maintain supplies in stock. Assist other departments when needed, occasionally is required to move heavy objects (furniture). Wash and fold lab coats as needed. Wash, buff and wax all tile floors in lunch room, rest rooms and warehouse. Clean carpet at least quarterly and outside window as necessary. Maintenance of Facility equipment such as buffering machine, scrubbers, vacuums and Etc. Assist in seasonal snow removal as needed, may involve heavy lifting. Work overtime as needed.
Qualifications & Skills:
High School Diploma required relevant experience considered Ability to add, or subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, procedures and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
