A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Job Goal:
To provide students and staff with a safe, clean, attractive, comfortable, and efficient learning environment.

Performance Responsibilities 1. Ensure routine cleanliness, maintenance, repair and trouble shooting for building during particular shift.2. Perform routine labor associated with cleaning and maintaining building and grounds including, but not limited to sweeping, vacuuming, washing, scrubbing, stripping, waxing, refinishing floors, polishing furniture, dusting, cleaning windows, furniture, walls, fixtures, carpets, offices, restrooms and removing trash from building. 3. Keep building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas neat and clean at all times.4. Ensure the maintenance of assigned equipment, and a safe and clean work area.5. Report major repairs needed to Director of Facilities and or Building Principal.6. Report immediately any damage to the school to the Director of Facilities or Building Principal7. Assume responsibility for opening and or closing the building each school day and determining before leaving that the doors and windows are secured, and lights are turned off. Raise and or lower United States Flag Daily8. Communicate effectively with other custodial, and maintenance staff, school staff, and the public.9. Keep an inventory of supplies, equipment and fuel on hand, and report to Director of Facilities as supplies need to be ordered.10. Conducts an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep, and repair and makes minor building repairs as necessary.11. Perform outside grounds chores such as grass cutting, tree trimming, weed whacking, as necessary to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition.12. Arrange furniture and equipment for the purpose of providing adequate preparations for meetings, classroom activities, and events.13. Responsible for the general security and safety of the building which includes keeping all doors closed and locked before, during, and after the school day and maintaining safe and clear fire exits and doors. Additional off hours may be required due to vandalism or alarm calls.14. Reports for duty in the event of an emergency school closure for the purposes of maintaining a safe environment and providing appropriate protection for students and faculty.15. Shovel, plow, and sand walks, driveways, parking areas, and steps as appropriate. Clear snow from all exit doors.16. Fill in for other shifts within building as required and assigned by Director of Facilities.17. Perform any other duties as requested by the Director of Facilities and/or the Building Principal.
Terms of Employment:
Twelve month salary. Work year established by contract.

Job performance will be evaluated by Director of facilities
