Company Overview The Town of Norwell is a welcoming municipality located on the South Shore, serving a community of under 11,000 residents. Situated approximately 20 miles from Boston, the town prides itself on maintaining a clean, safe, and well-maintained environment for its residents and visitors. Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Full-time Custodian to join our team, working 3:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m, Monday - Friday. The position is responsible for physical and manual work involving the cleaning and care of the Town's municipal buildings, as assigned, that may include Town Hall, the Council on Aging Senior Center, Cushing Memorial Hall, Police Department, associated building entry areas and all other related work and/or town-owned buildings (excluding schools) as required. •Maintains cleanliness of facilities, vacuuming, disinfecting, sweeping, mopping, waxing, and buffing floors, washing windows and floors, cleaning restrooms, restocking supplies, disposing of waste and recyclables, dusting and general cleaning of offices and furniture/equipment. Tracks custodial supplies inventory, communicates procurement needs to supervisor. Maintains supply storage areas in a safe and orderly manner. Opens and closes buildings (unlock/lock entrances); checks buildings for security; guards against vandalism and unlawful entry. Reports all incidents to supervisor and authorities as appropriate. Deliver and re-fill paper for all photocopy machines in common areas. May make minor repairs to floors, ceilings, and other comparable areas. Performs routine inspections of buildings for safety, fire, and sanitary hazards; checks fire/safety equipment (fire extinguishers, fire alarm panels, AED's, exit/ emergency lights), and reports any issues to supervisor. Performs general repairs, painting, and building maintenance duties, including maintenance of plumbing, electrical (light bulb replacement), HVAC equipment, and minor carpentry repairs. Maintains awareness of building HVAC and mechanical equipment operation and reports irregularities to their supervisor. Moves and arranges furniture, setting up furniture and equipment for meetings and functions. Assembles new furniture and repairs existing. Installs bulletin boards, shelving, or other office/ storage items. Removes snow, ice, leaves, dirt, and debris from walkways and stairs to maintain safe entry into municipal buildings for visitors and employees. Responds as Essential Emergency Personnel during inclement weather or other events during work, after hours, holidays and weekends depending on the timing and severity of the emergency event. Available on a call-back basis after work hours, holidays and weekends for inclement weather events and to provide necessary response and assistance for building alarm systems, (including but not limited to fire alarms, security alarms, HVAC alarms, etc.) as required and requested by supervisor. Utilizes Town Facilities maintenance software for receiving work requests and work orders status. Develop familiarity with building automation systems and provide back-up operation as requested. Responds to special requests by municipal officials. May assist municipal personnel on an as-needed basis with the approval of supervisor or their designee. Attends training sessions as required to remain knowledgeable of updates or changes in occupational safety requirements. Performs other related job duties as required. Qualifications Prior custodial or janitorial experience in a commercial or institutional setting preferred Knowledge of cleaning techniques, sanitation standards, and custodial equipment operation Ability to handle chemical agents safely and adhere to safety protocols at all times Physical ability to perform manual handling tasks including heavy lifting and prolonged standing or walking Strong attention to detail with excellent time management skills Customer service mindset to interact professionally with staff.
