A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

February 2022 SUMMARY Worcester Preparatory School Custodians are responsible for a variety of work including the cleanliness of the school. It is the responsibility of this individual to insure that the facilities, buildings and equipment are maintained in a condition of operating excellence, cleanliness, sanitation and safety. Safety, cleanliness and continued efficiency of operation shall be a major goal at all times. DUTIES Insures that assigned facilities and/or grounds (classrooms, offices, Field House/APAC, restrooms, Dining Hall, grounds, etc.) are cleaned maintaining a sanitary, safe and attractive environment. Attends in-service training (e.g., MOSHA, A.H.E.R.A., cleaning solvents, floor care, first aid, etc.) for the purpose of receiving information on new and/or improved procedures. Daily attendance and punctuality are required for the purpose of ensuring the goals of the work unit can be met. Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient, effective functioning of the work unit.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES SKILLS
are required to perform multiple, non-technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: using custodial supplies.KNOWLEDGE
is required to perform basic math; read and follow instructions; and understand multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: knowledge of custodial supplies; knowledge of cleaning methods and techniques. ABILITY is required to schedule activities; gather and/or collate data; and consider a variety of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with a variety of data; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. In working with others, some problem solving may be required to identify issues and select action plans. Problem solving with data may require independent interpretation; and problem solving with equipment is moderate. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: being willing to work; being organized.QUALIFICATIONS
Must have knowledge of commercial custodial work including sanitation and proper use of cleaning equipment and supplies. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide. Great organizational skills; ability to prioritize, multi-task projects with equal priority and anticipate work. Good oral communications and self-motivation. Ability to apply common sense understanding in carrying out instructions. Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.WORK ENVIRONMENT
