A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Job Description

The RSU #14 Facilities Department is a District-Wide Department and there is currently an open full time 40 hour position with benefits at the Windham High School. The work schedule for student days will be 2 pm to 10 pm Monday through Friday although the schedule may be altered during vacations, holidays, and other non-student days as needed by the Facilities Director or their designee. Candidates will be required on occasion to work overtime, weekends, and holidays when business needs require it. Candidates will need to be available to travel to all District locations as required. This is a non-inclusive listing of the job duties of this position: 1. Clean hallways, classrooms, bathrooms, offices, gyms, walls, vacuum/sweep and wash floors, and other areas as assigned by the Head Custodian2. Remove trash and recycling from the building and place in the proper containers3. Sanitize desks, bathrooms, and high touch areas4. Check and restock paper products in bathrooms as needed 5. Change ceiling tiles and light bulbs as required 6. When required, assist with snow removal and ground maintenance7. Perform deep summer cleaning at the schools8. Move furniture when necessary9. Before the end of the shift, sweep the area of responsibility to make sure that there is no one in the building and that all exits are locked and secure10.
Additional Winter responsibilities:
a. During days of snow accumulation, make sure that the walking surfaces are cleared of snow by using a snow blower, shoveling, and treating surfaces b. Throughout the day, regularly clear snow and ice from school exits to allow safe exit and entry 11. Other tasks as directed by the Head Custodian, Building Principal, Assistant Principal, Facilities Director, or their designee
