A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.
The Lead Custodian is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the Environmental Services (EVS) team within a medical facility. This position provides hands-on cleaning and sanitation services while assisting the Site Supervisor with team coordination, quality control, training, and daily workflow . The Lead EVS Custodian serves as a positive role model and helps ensure the facility maintains a clean, safe, and sanitary environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
( Must work 1-2 Saturdays per month ) Monday-Saturday | 5:00 PM - 1:30 AM Essential Duties & Responsibilities Perform routine and specialized cleaning and disinfecting of patient areas, offices, restrooms, hallways, waiting rooms, and other assigned areas. Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces in accordance with facility and company standards. Follow established infection prevention and environmental sanitation procedures . Properly handle, label, store, and use cleaning chemicals and equipment. Assist with cleaning in clinical and medical areas, including areas requiring additional sanitation precautions. Inspect assigned areas to ensure cleaning standards and quality expectations are consistently met. Assist with opening, closing, and daily assignment of cleaning areas as directed by management. Provide guidance and direction to EVS Custodians and assist with daily work assignments. Help train new employees on cleaning procedures, chemical safety, equipment use, and facility expectations . Monitor employee performance and communicate quality or attendance concerns to the Site Supervisor or Manager. Demonstrate and promote professionalism, teamwork, accountability, and a positive attitude . Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous EVS, custodial, housekeeping, healthcare, or commercial cleaning experience preferred. Previous lead or team-lead experience is a plus. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally. Work Environment This position operates in a medical/healthcare facility and may involve exposure to patients, visitors, bodily fluids, cleaning chemicals, and infectious materials. The Lead EVS Custodian must consistently follow all company and facility safety, infection prevention, PPE, and sanitation requirements.
