Situated in Macomb County in suburban Detroit, the Fraser Public Library is a class IV library serving a population of over 14,000 people. We have over 55,000 items in our collection; we participate in e-book collections as well as other databases and the Virtual Library Card program which connects us to our local school system and students. FPL is part of the Suburban Library Cooperative and has operated for over 55 years. The Library is well established in the community, with very supportive patrons and a dedicated Friends group.

Job Summary The Fraser Public Library is looking for a detail-oriented individual to perform custodial and light maintenance services, including sweeping, vacuuming, mopping and other cleaning duties in and around the library building and grounds as well as the old location until updating is completed. This staff member is additionally responsible for maintaining and providing light repairs to the library. See below for the custodial tasks performed by this position. Responsibilities Follows a written checklist of routine janitorial and maintenance work required to maintain the appearance and safety of the library building and grounds and performs these tasks regularly. Performs custodial work, including but not limited to: sweeping, mopping, vacuuming carpets, dusting and cleaning furniture, shelves and equipment, washing windows, cleaning and supplying restrooms, removing trash, and replacing light bulbs. Cleans and maintains custodial equipment on a regular basis. Returns supplies, equipment and tools to their designated places after each use. Assists library staff in moving furniture, equipment, supplies and library materials as needed. Picks up rubbish on library grounds. Shovels and salts sidewalks as needed. Assists in landscape maintenance, including leaf blowing as needed. Conducts routine repairs. Notes damages or cleaning needs and reports them promptly to Library Director or designee. Cleans roof drains at least monthly. Monitors library building and grounds for cleanliness, building issues and human safety issues and reports any such issues and possible solutions to the Library Director or designee immediately. Qualifications Two to four years related experience and/or training. Experience in custodial and maintenance services preferred. Necessary Special Requirements Should be detail-oriented and enjoy repetitive tasks. Strong organizational and time management skills. Good communication skills - verbal and interpersonal. Ability to learn and use the library's custodial equipment and materials. Ability and willingness to understand and efficiently carry out oral and written instructions and follow through on numerous details in an orderly fashion. Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedules and checklists. Ability to maintain effective working relationship with library staff and maintenance contractors. Ability to maintain good work habits. Physical ability to lift/carry materials weighing up to 60 pounds. Flexibility to adapt to changing situations and to vary work schedule as needed Valid driver's license, acceptable driving history and personal automobile for job-related transportation. Working Conditions While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather), and fumes or airborne particles. Work includes exposure to various cleaning chemicals and vapors, dust and debris. Employee is occasionally required to climb up and down ladders, balance, stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee is occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
