A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.
Job Summary PrideStaff is seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Janitorial Specialist to join our Facilities team at one of our clients in Plymouth, MI. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and professional environment across our office areas, technical laboratories, conference rooms, and common spaces. Shift 4 pm-12:30 pm
Essential Duties & Responsibilities Facility Cleaning & Upkeep General Cleaning:
Sweep, mop, scrub, and vacuum floors throughout office areas, hallways, breakrooms, and lobbies.
Restroom Maintenance:
Clean, sanitize, and stock all restrooms daily, ensuring high standards of hygiene and safety.
Trash & Recycling:
Empty waste bins and recycling containers throughout the facility and dispose of materials in accordance with environmental and facility guidelines.
Surface Care:
Dust furniture, fixtures, windowsills, and clean glass doors and interior glass surfaces.
Breakrooms & Kitchenettes:
Sanitize countertops, sinks, tables, and appliance exteriors in break areas. Specialized & Periodic Maintenance Perform carpet spot cleaning and hard-surface floor polishing/buffing as needed. Assist with seasonal cleaning tasks and deep-cleaning schedules during scheduled plant/facility shutdowns or downtime. Clean and sanitize high-touch point areas (doorknobs, handrails, elevator buttons) regularly. Safety & Inventory Maintain and organize custodial closets, ensuring supplies are labeled, stored safely, and refilled. Monitor cleaning supplies inventory and report low stock to the Facilities Supervisor. Follow all OSHA , safety, and SDS (Safety Data Sheet) guidelines for chemical handling and equipment operation. Promptly report facility maintenance issues, safety hazards, or structural damage to management.
Qualifications & Requirements Experience:
1+ years of commercial janitorial, custodial, or facility cleaning experience preferred.
Education:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and stretch for extended periods. Ability to lift up to 40 lbs repeatedly (trash bags, floor equipment, cleaning supplies).
Skills & Attributes:
Strong attention to detail and pride in maintaining a spotless environment. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as collaboratively with the Facilities team. Strong communication and customer service skills when interacting with staff and visitors. Familiarity with commercial floor care equipment (auto-scrubbers, buffers, industrial vacuums) is a plus.
