52 Week M-F 2nd Shift (3pm - 11:30pm), Occasional overtime may be required for events, emergencies, or seasonal cleaning. Job Summary The 2nd Shift Lead Custodian is responsible for supervising evening custodial operations and ensuring the cleanliness, safety, and security of the school building and grounds. This position performs custodial duties while coordinating and directing the work of custodial staff to maintain a clean and safe learning environment for students, staff, and community users. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Leadership & Supervision Work with 1st shift lead in partnership to assign daily tasks to custodial staff. Assign and monitor completion of custodial duties and building cleaning schedules. Train new custodial employees on proper cleaning procedures, equipment use, and safety practices. Inspect work areas to ensure cleaning standards are met. Communicate staffing needs, concerns, and building issues to the custodial supervisor.. Assist in evaluating custodial staff performance when requested. Custodial Duties Clean and maintain classrooms, offices, restrooms, hallways, locker rooms, and common areas. Sweep, mop, vacuum, and dust assigned areas. Empty trash and recycling containers. Clean and sanitize restrooms and replenish supplies. Set up and tear down tables, chairs, and equipment for school and community events. Assist with floor care including scrubbing, stripping, waxing, and carpet cleaning. Building Oversight Ensure building is secure by locking doors and checking windows at the end of the shift. Monitor building during evening activities and rentals. Respond to spills, emergencies, or custodial needs during events. Report maintenance issues, damage, or safety hazards promptly. Ensure custodial closets and equipment areas remain organized and stocked. Safety & Compliance Follow district safety procedures and proper chemical handling guidelines. Maintain knowledge of cleaning chemicals and Safety Data Sheets (SDS). Ensure custodial staff follow safety practices and proper equipment operation. Assist with snow removal or exterior maintenance when required. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous custodial experience required; school custodial experience preferred. Leadership or supervisory experience preferred. Ability to operate custodial equipment such as auto scrubbers, floor buffers, and carpet extractors. Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and safety procedures. Ability to work independently and lead a team. Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Frequent standing, walking, bending, and climbing stairs. Ability to perform repetitive cleaning tasks and operate custodial equipment. Ability to work in varying temperatures and conditions. Additional Responsibilities Assist with summer deep cleaning projects. Support building administrators during evening events or community rentals.
