What they do

A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Job Description

Shifts:
Students may work early morning shifts (typically 6:00-8:00 a.m., with flexibility to leave at 7:30 a.m. for a 7:45 a.m. class) or other shifts that fit their class schedule, including residence hall assignments.
Responsibilities:
Clean classrooms, offices, residence halls, and other campus facilities as assigned. Vacuum, sweep, mop, dust, and sanitize designated areas. Empty trash and recycling receptacles. Clean hard surfaces and assist with general custodial tasks. Report maintenance or safety concerns to supervisors. Complete additional cleaning and maintenance duties as assigned.
Required Skills:
Strong work ethic and reliability. Ability to work efficiently and stay focused on assigned tasks. Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a clean environment. Ability to work independently and follow directions.
Qualifications:
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform physical work throughout a shift. Ability to lift and carry cleaning supplies and equipment as needed. No prior custodial experience required; training is provided.
Type of Work:
Help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming campus environment by performing routine custodial duties in academic buildings and residence halls. Typical duties include cleaning, vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, dusting, sanitizing surfaces, and removing trash.
