Position Objective The Environmental Service worker maintains environmental information and infection control standards within established policies and procedures of the health care center. The position performs a variety of general cleaning tasks to maintain patient rooms, offices, hallways, and other assigned areas of the facility. The position distributes and tracks clean linens to user departments and maintains stock levels on nursing floors. The Housekeeper follows standard practices and procedures and complies with regulatory requirements. Essential Responsibilities The following description of responsibilities to be performed is not intended to be all-inclusive. Rather, it focuses on the major tasks that must be accomplished. Technical Capacity Use various cleaning chemicals and disinfectants to disinfect all areas and equipment Mop and vacuum floors and make beds Equipment Obtain department directors approval when ordering non-routine supplies from Materials Management Department Relay equipment needs to the department director Working Conditions/Environment Occasional contact with infectious diseases May be exposed to latex supplies/products Unpleasant situations and odors are kept at minimum but can occur Use of personal protective equipment when there is a risk of exposure to chemicals and/or infectious materials Laundry/Linen Distribute clean linens to user departments Other Responsibilities Perform all other related duties as assigned in a professional and responsive manner Demonstrate the ability to use relevant equipment Support, understand, and promote Alomere Health's mission, vision, values, policies and procedures Ability to meet the work schedule requirements with flexibility dependent upon the needs of the department Foster respectful working relationships with professional colleagues, patients, families, and general public regardless of age, gender, lifestyle, culture, beliefs, race, socioeconomic class, or ability Coordinate housekeeping activities on the weekend in the absence of the Director of Environmental Services, which may require the rescheduling of housekeeping staff and answering of all requests of the various departments Union Position No Required Qualifications No set educational requirements Education skills sufficient to comprehend regulatory polices/procedures relative to infection control and hazardous material Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to operate mechanical floor cleaners, buffers, vacuums, shampooers and related environmental service equipment Ability to plan and organize work to ensure completion of assignments Ability to set priorities, adjust schedules and breaks to assure completion of assigned work, and uses time productively Ability to handle stressful conditions of the position Skill in using standard precautions when in contact with infectious material Knowledge in how to follow necessary precautions to avoid injury, including stretching and short breaks from repetitive actions
