A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Job Description

During the school year (September through May), the position is Monday through Friday. The position completes the janitorial cleaning of restrooms, locker rooms, library, some classrooms, gym, entrances & hallways at the high school, then completes janitorial cleaning of the gym, entrances & hallways at the elementary school. Plus, assists with clean-up after evening events at both schools. There is 5 mile distance between each school location. This can be a very physical job. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must be able to lift and /or move up to 50 pounds. The position will operate a upright vacuum cleaner, backpack vacuum cleaner, auto-scrubber, hard floor burnisher, carpet extractor, and other janitorial equipment. All Janitorial Staff work daytime hours during the Summer months (June through August) from Monday through Thursday and this position works 10 hour shifts for the full-time hours. During the Summer months, the staff work on project work to deep clean all classrooms and common areas in both the Elementary School & High School to include moving furniture, stripping or scrubbing hard floors, carpet cleaning. wall washing, window cleaning, etc.
