A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Job Description
Summary/Objective Performs daily custodial functions in assigned facilities. Works collaboratively with all University units to provide a pleasing, comfortable, and safe environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Essential Job Duties Cleans and sanitizes bathroom/shower fixtures, partitions and floors Clean windows and door glass in entrance/exit ways Cleans building floors to include sweeping, dusting vacuuming, damp and wet mopping and buffing Discards waste/trash into proper containers and relines trash receptacles Cleans hallways, stairs and vestibules by sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, etc. Cleans/polishes furnishings, ledges, etc. Maintains classrooms including realignment of chairs, clean dry erase boards etc. Reports any hazardous conditions, call in work orders as needed and follow safety policies and procedures Work special events and overtime as needed including summer camp work schedules, Homecoming, spring and fall visitations, athletic events, etc. Communicate with persons of various backgrounds professionally and in a courteous manner Attends departmental and /or university meetings. Attends professional development seminars and/or classes periodically that pertain to the area of responsibilities (including essential functions) of this position. Pick up trash at entrances and immediate area outside of assigned buildings. Supervises the work of student workers assigned to area. Relieves or assist on the other jobs assigned to area. Maintains a clean and orderly supply closet. Orders supplies as needed. Regular attendance and punctuality. Sets an example of a Christian lifestyle for students, staff and faculty. Commitment and adherence to Southwest Baptist University's Principles and Expectations. Performs other duties assigned. Supervisory Responsibility Student employees. Position Requirements Required High school diploma or GED and at least one year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Must be able to follow written and oral instructions concerning cleaning chemicals and methods. Must be able to maintain confidentiality when exposed to confidential documents or information while cleaning. At least one year of experience cleaning in a commercial or educational setting. Must possess a valid driver's license. Preferred At least three years of experience cleaning in a commercial or educational setting. Work Environment Indoor custodial environment with multiple building responsibility with ability to traverse by foot or vehicle between buildings. Exposure to various custodial chemicals. Ability to traverse up and down multiple building levels by stairs and ladders. Physical Abilities Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and get in and out of the vehicle frequently during each shift. Occasionally ascends/descends a ladder. Medium to heavy exertion. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and move heavy equipment (up to 500 lbs.) from building to building by various means of transportation. Ability to frequently bend, stoop, and reach. Ability to be on one's feet for long periods of time.
