Job Description

The City of Carthage is accepting applications for a Part‑Time Memorial Hall Custodian . This position performs general custodial and basic maintenance duties to ensure Memorial Hall facilities are clean, safe, and properly set up for events and daily operations. Work hours may vary based on events and facility needs.
Starting Pay:
$15.87 per hour

Exempt Department:
Memorial Hall Essential Duties and Responsibilities Essential responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Perform general custodial work, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, stripping, waxing, and buffing floors Clean and maintain restrooms and replenish supplies Clean windows, walls, furniture, fixtures, and common areas Operate custodial and power‑cleaning equipment safely Set up and take down chairs, tables, and equipment for events and meetings Perform light grounds maintenance as needed Perform minor repairs such as replacing light bulbs and fixtures Complete basic maintenance tasks including painting, minor carpentry, wiring, and plumbing Conduct daily checks of lighting, electrical, and HVAC systems and report issues beyond scope Secure the facility by turning off lights and locking doors and windows Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge of custodial practices, cleaning materials, and disinfectants Ability to use custodial and building maintenance equipment Ability to follow oral and written instructions Ability to work independently and maintain effective working relationships
Experience and Education:
Any combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge and abilities Custodial experience preferred Ability to read and write at a level necessary for job performance Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and push or pull up to 100 pounds Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, and climbing Ability to hear clearly and perform physical labor safely Schedule and Special Requirements Part‑time hours , including weekdays, evenings, and weekends Hours may vary based on scheduled events Seasonal or event‑related overtime may be required in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act Valid Missouri driver's license or ability to obtain one
