Description:
A maintenance custodian is responsible for cleaning, maintaining, and ensuring the safety and functionality of a building and its surrounding grounds
Key Responsibilities General Cleaning:
Sweep, mop, vacuum floors, dust surfaces, clean windows, mirrors, and furniture to maintain a hygienic environment
Restroom Maintenance:
Sanitize toilets, sinks, and other fixtures; replenish supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper
Trash and Waste Management:
Empty trash and recycling bins, dispose of waste according to regulations, and ensure proper separation of recyclables
Floor and Carpet Care:
Operate floor cleaning machines, strip, wax, polish floors, and maintain carpets through vacuuming, shampooing, or steam cleaning
Maintenance and Repairs:
Perform minor repairs such as changing light bulbs, replacing air filters, and reporting major repair needs or safety hazards
Event Support:
Assist with setup and breakdown for events, including moving furniture and equipment as needed
Equipment and Supply Management:
Use cleaning chemicals safely, maintain inventory of cleaning supplies, and operate necessary machinery.
Requirements:
Qualifications and Skills Previous experience in custodial or maintenance work is preferred; supervisory experience may be desired for some positions Physical stamina to stand, walk, lift up to 80 pounds, climb, kneel, or crouch as required Ability to work independently or as part of a team, follow instructions, and adapt to changing priorities Knowledge of safety procedures, including OSHA compliance and safe handling of chemicals Basic computer, telephone, and office equipment skills may be required for reporting and communication Work Environment Work may occur indoors and outdoors, including areas with low lighting, extreme temperatures, or mechanical systems Shifts can include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays depending on the facility's needs The role may involve driving company vehicles or using industrial equipment to perform duties Key Attributes Attention to detail, diligence, and reliability. Physical endurance and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently. Commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all building occupants.
