This position is only open to current Rockwood Custodians and Custodial Trainees. The internal closing date for this position is September 9, 2026. You must apply for this position before the internal closing date to be considered a Round 1 applicant.

POSITION SUMMARY

Helps support the mission of the district by performing moderately complex cleaning tasks, leadership, custodial maintenance of the building and coordination of tasks with evening and day custodial employees. Provides leadership support to the custodial employees at secondary schools.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Ability to enter and monitor work orders and facility usage in an automated system (i.e. FMX)

Assist other building custodians with daily cleaning tasks as needed

Assist with scheduling of special events and weekend building functions. Reviews calendar of events with supervisors and building managers for the purposes of planning for necessary personnel, equipment and materials

Assist with the personnel functions associated with the selection, training, evaluation, counseling and retention of qualified personnel at the building level

Handle submission of work orders for general maintenance to the appropriate person

Instruct employees regarding proper cleaning techniques, chemicals selection, mixes and application, equipment operation and surface treatment. Trains new personnel in cleaning techniques and custodial policies

Keep the building locked and secured

Maintain communications with supervisors, building managers and teachers

Maintain inventory of supplies through timely orders; check inventory on a predetermined frequency to ensure safe storage and loss prevention

Monitor overtime to ensure all hours worked are necessary and approved

Monitor the progress of all custodial employees and assist with integrating this information into annual performance review

Participate in selection committees for entry level openings

Perform routine inspection of buildings to ensure a safe and clean facility for learning, special events and staff, parents and the public which use the facility

Prepare a report on work-related injuries as soon as possible after the incident, to include securing names of witnesses and other pertinent data

Prepare and finish/refinish hard floors per established procedures when directed

Relate information gathered through inspections to further instruct and counsel with employees

Responsible for a thorough knowledge of and use of cleaning techniques, equipment, cleaning materials, supplies and inventory control

Responsible for maintaining communications with building users, the Area Supervisor and building managers concerning occurrences within the building, and to ensure goals of custodial department are being met

Report work-periods using the current time keeping system and other appropriate paperwork to Supervisor

Support the staff of the building with whatever custodial- related tasks are needed for their functions

Use small hand tools and repair equipment, as needed

When requested, provide the supervisor or building manager with data required for the budget or special reports

Perform other duties as assigned

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Ability to understand and know how to use supplies and equipment via safety data sheets

Ability to execute defined work assignments

Ability to evaluate and solve problems in the absence of supervisor

Possess interpersonal skills that enable the employee to interact with children, staff, parents and supervisors in a professional and courteous manner

Ability to perform necessary cleaning procedures to complete assigned duties throughout assigned location

Ability to recognize common safety and health hazards

Ability to stoop, bend, twist, lift and move equipment and supplies, including lifting up to 50 pounds on occasion and 20-30 pounds repetitively

Ability to climb ladders as needed; up to six (6) feet

Ability to read and understand manufacturers' warning label information

BASIC REQUIREMENTS

GED or high school diploma.

One to three years' prior custodial experience, prefer supervisory experience in a school or similar setting

Knowledge of the hazardous communication system (MSDS)

Knowledge of the practices, materials, methods, equipment, tools, and science of custodial tasks

Knowledge of written and verbal communication techniques

Knowledge or principles of planning, supervision, team building, leadership, and work place relationships

Math skills sufficient to handle manufacturer's labels instructions for dilution of chemicals used in cleaning

Possess valid driver's license

Must be flexible, able to report to various school sites and when necessary, various shifts or days of the week, including weekends

This position is very active and requires the physical ability to enable standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, climbing, sitting, talking, hearing, twisting, reaching, and lifting throughout each shift
