A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Job Description

Performs responsible, semi-skilled custodial and event work in the care and cleaning of the County Agri-Civic Center and Livestock Arena. Assist with the setup, breakdown, and general operation of event venues. Responsibilities include tasks such as moving and arranging tables, chairs, and staging, as well as ensuring venues are clean and organized. Must be able to work effectively with other staff members and guests. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed. Starting pay is $15.95 per hour. Dusts and/or polishes chairs, tables, shelves and other furniture or equipment. Unlocking and locking the mechanical control that operates stage curtains and setting up stage area Completes written checklist upon request. Vacuums, sweeps, damp and dust mops floors and stairwells. Gathers and disposes of refuse. Picks up paper and trash from grounds. Cleans and supplies restrooms. Moves furniture, office equipment, and boxes. Assists with setting up various meeting areas. Assists with building maintenance as requested Ensures building is secured at close of business. Ensures events are set up properly Assists with setup and operation of audio visual and sound equipment Ability to use tact and courtesy when dealing with the public Performs related tasks as required. Some knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment; some knowledge of the cleaning process and procedures required by the County; ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions; ability to get along will with others; ability to read. Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school.
