A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

PURPOSE AND
RESPONSIBILITIES- This position was created in order to
  • Provide our customers with an exceptionally clean facility. The janitorial staff use a checklist system and training will be provided.
  • Provide our customers outstanding service. Janitors need be aware of customers and readily available to help them find what they came for with a smile. Greeted with HELLO. Left with Have a nice day. We want the customer to always stop here in the future.
  • Janitors are essential to the safety of the Travelers' Oasis customers and employees.
Janitors should always be on the look out for spills and standing water. QUALIFICATIONS- Capacities Physical 1. Position requires extensive walking and climbing of stairs. 2. Must be able to work at a steady pace and be on their feet for the majority of their 8 hour shift. 3. Position requires employee to work on his/her knees for up to an hour a shift (e.g., cleaning behind toilets and scrubbing floors). 4. Employee will be required to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs. and carry them up to (20) feet. 5. Must be able to stoop and bend. 6. Subjected to wet floors and cleaning chemicals. 7. Must be able to lift 20 lbs. over their head. Mental 1. Understand and carry out oral and written instructions. 2. Be able to communicate clearly to customers and staff. Attitude 1. Optimistic outlook. 2. Customer service oriented. 3. Dependable, on-time, and willing to go the extra mile to get the job done. Personality Traits 1. Attention to detail. By its nature, janitorial work is a detail oriented occupation. The little things count the most. 2. Ability to Organize. Janitor needs to be able to organize their time and stay on task. 3. Ability to work without supervision. Skills 1. Communication. Read, write and speak English. 2. Customer relations
OVERVIEW OF DAILY
TASKS-
  • Clean restrooms and showers
  • Clean truckers lounge and laundry room
  • Stock janitor closets
  • Sweep and mop floors
  • Wash windows
  • Take out garbage and cardboard
  • Bag ice for retail sale
  • Dusting
  • Wash, dry and fold towels for customer use
  • Empty garbage's around front of the store and gas islands on occasion.
OTHER- Janitors will report to the maintenance manager and the manager on shift.
