The Janitor provides a safe, attractive, comfortable, and clean environment to ensure full and productive use of USDA facilities. To accomplish these tasks the Janitor must work closely with the Program Manager, Project Lead, and co-workers. Work is typically performed during a daytime shift Monday through Sunday and may include work on Federal Holidays. Work after hours is required on occasion to handle potential surge requirements. These requirements are rare.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide a clean, safe, attractive, and comfortable environment to ensure full and productive use of government facility. Complete day to day as well as periodic weekly, monthly, or annual janitorial tasks for office space, public spaces, restrooms, and administrative areas based on specified performance and scheduling requirements. Assist with stripping and waxing floors Utilize approved

chemicals and cleaning methods to disinfect and sanitize assigned areas Assist with facility set up for meetings, events, or classrooms. Perform waste or recycling handling/disposal. Additional duties may include supply management, implementation of safety protocols and performance of periodic standard compliance assessments of the facility standards. Maintain security when entering or exiting USDA facilities. Perform other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent. Able to gain access to federal government facilities. Driver's license and reliable transportation required to travel to and from work site. Two or more years of experience in custodial work is preferred, but not required. Familiarity with commercial sanitization techniques, "green" or environmentally-sound cleaning / recycling practices and knowledge in the usage of common cleaning materials and techniques is preferred, but not required. Ability to implement and follow all federal and building health and safety policies. Ability to work independently without supervision. Ability to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials up to 50 lbs. Ability to meet physical requirements of stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning, reaching, climbing, and balancing consistent with janitorial duties. Ability to complete tasks in a noisy environment with numerous interruptions. Demonstrate basic oral and written communication skills in English as needed to exchange information give/receive simple instructions and respond to inquiries in a courteous and timely manner. Demonstrate basic computer skills required to complete timecard and perform other administrative tasks through our payroll system. Ability to use job related tools or equipment with expertise acquired through experience and/or specialized training Demonstrate flexibility required to react to changes and frequent interruptions in a productive and positive manner.
