A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Department:
Custodial Services Job Summary Performs a wide variety of routine cleaning duties at campus buildings which includes, but not limited to, sweeping, mopping, vacuum cleaning and dusting tasks and changing of light bulbs. Performs special custodial assignments which includes shampooing ofcarpets, stripping, waxing and spray buffing of floors and stairwells. Maintains rest rooms which includes cleaning of walls, sinks, fixtures, toilets and mirrors. Replenishes towels, tissues and soap dispensers. Empties trash receptacles. Performs recycling duties when necessary. Cleans entrances to buildings. Includes glass on entrance doors and exterior areas to buildings. Polices areas around buildings for litter. Performs work orders assigned by the Custodial Supervisor which are associated with assisting the day custodial staff with set ups of special events and college activities. Clears snow and ice from entranceways, walkways, patios and steps. Shovels or sweeps areas and applies calcium chloride. Performs other duties as assigned which may include, but not limited to, custodial tasks. Qualifications- Education High school diploma or equivalency desirable. Qualifications
