The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, appearance, and general upkeep of our facilities, ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. This position requires a proactive approach to custodial work as well as the ability to perform basic maintenance and light carpentry repairs as needed. Duties Perform general cleaning duties, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, and cleaning floors and common areas. Conduct thorough janitorial tasks in accordance with established schedules and cleanliness standards. Ensure all restrooms are clean, sanitary, properly stocked, and well-maintained. Assist with the general maintenance and upkeep of the school building, grounds, and facilities. Perform basic carpentry and minor repair work, including repairing or adjusting doors, cabinets, shelving, trim, molding, furniture, and other fixtures. Assist with the installation or repair of shelving, bulletin boards, wall-mounted items, hardware, and other basic building components. Perform minor painting, patching, and touch-up work as needed. Make minor repairs to locks, door hardware, furniture, and other facility equipment when appropriate. Identify maintenance concerns and promptly report repairs requiring specialized contractors or professional trades. Assist with room setups and breakdowns for school events, meetings, athletic activities, and other functions. Move furniture, equipment, supplies, and materials as needed. Respond promptly to cleaning, maintenance, and facility requests from administration, faculty, and staff. Maintain an appropriate inventory of cleaning and maintenance supplies and report shortages or equipment issues. Properly use and maintain custodial tools, equipment, and basic hand and power tools. Follow all school safety procedures and established protocols to maintain a safe working environment for students, employees, visitors, and fellow staff members. Perform other custodial, maintenance, and facilities-related duties as assigned. Experience and Qualifications Previous custodial or commercial cleaning experience is preferred. Experience with general building or facilities maintenance is strongly preferred. Basic carpentry skills and experience performing minor building repairs are highly desirable. Familiarity with basic hand and power tools is preferred. Experience with painting, patching, furniture repair, door and hardware adjustments, shelving installation, or similar maintenance work is a plus. Familiarity with industrial or institutional cleaning practices is beneficial. Ability to recognize maintenance issues and determine when repairs should be referred to a specialized contractor. Ability to work independently, prioritize responsibilities, and respond to facility needs in a timely manner. Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position, including standing for extended periods, bending, lifting, carrying, and moving furniture, equipment, and supplies. We are looking for an individual who takes pride in maintaining a clean, safe, and well-cared-for environment and is willing to assist with both custodial responsibilities and general facility repairs. We encourage qualified candidates with custodial, maintenance, and basic carpentry experience to apply. I added the carpentry component without making the position sound like it requires a licensed carpenter. This gives you flexibility to expect door repairs, shelving, cabinets, trim, furniture repairs, patching, painting, and other basic maintenance work.
