Job Description
Job Overview The Berlin Township School District is looking for a full-time custodian to join our buildings and grounds department. Our custodians are responsible for the daily cleaning of an assigned area in the school. The work shift is 8 hours per night, Monday through Friday. This position would be during night shift (4:00-12:00) during the school year and day shift during the summer (7:00-5:00, four 10 hour days). All applicants must be able to pass a criminal history check and health physical. Duties Perform routine cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming floors to maintain cleanliness. Buff and polish floors to enhance appearance and prolong surface life. Conduct thorough commercial cleaning in offices, restrooms, and common areas. Carry out industrial cleaning duties as required, ensuring compliance with safety standards. Maintain custodial equipment and supplies, reporting any malfunctions or shortages promptly. Assist with facilities maintenance tasks as needed, contributing to the overall upkeep of the premises. Support residential painting projects when necessary, ensuring high-quality finishes. Execute floor care procedures including stripping, waxing, and sealing as part of regular maintenance. Act as a porter by managing waste disposal and recycling efforts throughout the facility. Assists in snow removal Requirements Previous experience in custodial or commercial cleaning roles is preferred. Knowledge of buffing techniques and floor care practices is highly desirable. Familiarity with industrial cleaning standards and safety protocols. Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain high cleanliness standards. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Excellent time management skills to effectively prioritize tasks throughout the shift. Physical stamina to perform manual labor including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods. Able to use a ladder to work at heights and/or change lightbulbs.
