A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

JOB PURPOSE
The Custodial Staff is directly responsible for maintaining a clean and healthy environment for clients, staff, and volunteers by performing a variety of cleaning and maintenance duties. Keeps the shelter in clean and orderly condition. Qualifications
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Clean and supply designated building areas (dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning ceiling vents, restroom cleaning etc.)
  • Service, clean, and supply restrooms and showers
  • Carry out heavy cleansing tasks and special projects
  • Perform and document routine inspection and maintenance activities
  • Mix water and detergents in containers to prepare cleaning solutions
  • Train shelter clients in proper upkeep and cleaning of dining area and sleeping area
  • Notify management of occurring deficiencies or needs for repairs
  • Requisition supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties
  • Gather and empty trash
  • Perform routine maintenance activities
  • Sanitization of heavy traffic areas throughout the day
  • Stock and maintain supply rooms
  • Follow all health and safety regulations
  • Report routine observations of residential and public areas to supervisory staff including conditions that may affect the safety and/or security of clients, residents, staff, or volunteers
  • Assist with grounds and landscaping of facility
  • Other duties as assigned

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
:
EDUCATION
High School Diploma or GED required
EXPERIENCE
Must have a minimum of 1 (one) year experience in a shelter setting. Must include experience in working with immigration populations, child welfare and vulnerable populations.
ATTENDANCE
Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined in the employer's sole discretion.
LICENSES
Driver's License with clear record.
VEHICLE:
Must have daily use of a vehicle without prior notice.

Must be available and willing to travel to various locations and with such frequency as the business need dictates.
