Job Description
Part Time Custodian Job Description Under general supervision, performs a variety of custodial and light maintenance duties to maintain a clean, orderly, and safe environment. Carries out related tasks as needed to support the operation of the facility. Scope The Custodian is responsible for routine custodial work and very light maintenance tasks, or for reporting maintenance issues to a supervisor. This position responds to emergency service calls, works closely with employees and the public to meet custodial needs, and addresses problems to ensure efficient and safe operations. Key Duties and Responsibilities Examples of duties are illustrative and not intended to be all-inclusive. The employee follows and completes the center's daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning schedule. Duties include, but are not limited to: Collect and bag all garbage from the center; place tied bags in a closed dumpster. Disinfect and clean garbage/trash cans and replace liners daily. Wash and sanitize bathroom fixtures daily using a germicidal solution. Wet mop all washable floors daily (including kitchen, bathroom, office, and classroom) using germicidal solution. Wash interior and exterior windows, as well as walls in bathrooms, kitchens, classrooms, and other areas, on schedule or as needed. Vacuum all carpets; sweep and clear entrance areas. Dust, wash, and sanitize other surfaces as specified in the cleaning schedule. Replenish paper towels, tissues, toilet paper, and hand soap in all dispensers. Perform additional cleaning tasks outlined in the schedule. Report the following to the customer and supervisor: Presence of animals, vermin, or insects. Need for cleaning supplies or equipment repair. Any observed health and safety hazards. Participate in emergency drills and environmental safety activities, as requested. Attend and participate in center pre-service and in-service training. Perform other related duties as assigned or described in the job description addendum. EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Safely handle and apply pesticides, and properly dispose of hazardous materials in compliance with safety protocols. Identify various types of stains and select appropriate chemicals and methods for effective removal. Operate a wide range of manual and powered equipment efficiently and safely. Work professionally and respectfully in public settings and around diverse populations. Perform physically demanding tasks with endurance and reliability. Understand and follow both oral and written instructions with accuracy. Maintain cooperative, effective working relationships with colleagues and the public. Demonstrate cultural awareness, sensitivity, and respect for individuals from diverse backgrounds.KNOWLEDGE OF
: Employ effective techniques for maintaining, cleaning, and preserving a variety of surfaces, ensuring long-term durability and appearance. Safely and accurately use a wide range of chemicals, adhering to state and federal regulations for proper handling and application. Handle and dispose of hazardous materials, including blood-borne pathogens, following stringent safety protocols and environmental standards.Minimum Qualifications Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.Experience:
At least one (1) year of commercial custodial experience.Equivalency Option:
Candidates who do not meet the exact education and/or experience requirements may apply for equivalency consideration. Equivalency is based on a combination of education and experience that demonstrates the required knowledge and abilities. An Equivalency Application must be submitted at the time of application. Equivalency decisions are made by Human Resources , in coordination with the department as needed.Other Requirements:
Successful completion of a background check . Possession of a valid driver's license . Special Requirements Ability to perform physical activities, including but not limited to lifting items up to 20 lbs. unassisted bending, standing, climbing, and walking. Ability to work safely in environments containing caustic chemicals, cleaning materials, dust, and noise. Willingness to work in a variety of weather conditions, including inclement weather Must be able to work during business hours.Job Type:
