ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Empty waste baskets, transport waste to dumpster Sweep, mop and buff floors of offices, classrooms, service rooms and restrooms Help unload supplies and equipment when delivered, store in assigned areas Answer trouble calls from office, teachers, cooks and students Ready areas for special events, i.e. athletic events, concerts, meetings, etc. Assist cooks in kitchen lifting heavy boxes and equipment Clean the carpet Perform such outside work as mowing and trimming lawns and fields as assigned by the Head Custodian Remove snow from sidewalks Do yard work Perform any other duties as required by the Principal. PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
Custodian will be responsible for: The cleanliness and safety of assigned areas The care of cleaning tools and materials, and the economical use of soaps, detergents, waxes and other cleaning supplies The painting, cleaning, setting up of chairs, and other normal maintenance duties
JOB KNOWLEDGE
Custodian must: Know how to use common cleaning devices such as mops, brooms, floor scrubbing and buffing machines and vacuum sweepers Be familiar with the physical arrangements of the building Be adaptable to perform routing tasks, accept orders from several persons and work under conditions of frequent interruption Have knowledge of the operation and maintenance of equipment used for ice and snow removal Exercise tact and good judgement to maintain good employee relationships Have knowledge of carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, mechanical and concrete work to be able to participate efficiently in the summer maintenance program Have basic understanding of asbestos/energy management
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Previous experience in general building and grounds maintenance High School graduate or equivalent Be able to read/write and succeed at basic mathematics Observe high standards of work ethic and attendance at work Maintain the high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality as is expected of persons employed in positions of this responsibility. Be prompt, courteous and tactful in daily contact with teachers, students and the public. Be familiar with and adhere to all Board Policies. Able to lift 50 pounds.
