A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

SUMMARY:
Under direct supervision, maintains County facilities in a clean, sanitary, safe, and presentable condition. Performs routine and detailed cleaning, disinfection of high-touch areas, restroom service, floor care, waste removal, equipment operation, safe chemical handling, and timely reporting of hazards and facility issues.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following. Other related duties may be assigned. 65% Daily performs manual cleaning duties such as sweeps floors with broom or vacuum; dusts furniture; empties trashcans; cleans glass/plexiglass areas; cleans restroom floor, toilets, sinks and wipes down all other surface areas in restrooms; replaces bathroom supplies; sweeps and mops hallways, common areas and offices; cleans multiple areas by following a written schedule or as verbally assigned; may be assigned to work alone or individually in one or more buildings; may need to drive or walk between buildings to complete duties. Complete work orders assigned based on location assigned. Clean and disinfect restrooms, breakrooms, offices, court/public areas, hallways, stairwells, and assigned spaces. Disinfect high-touch points per facility standard (handles, railings, switches, counters, fixtures). Restock consumables (soap, paper products, liners) and report low inventory. Follow
PPE, MSDS
chemical handling and label direction requirements. 35% Uses wet floor/caution signage and follows safe lifting/equipment practices. Reports hazards, damage, and security concerns promptly and accurately. Priority response to urgent spills/bio incidents, safety hazards, and public-area issues are addressed promptly when reported/observed. Perform periodic floor care as trained/assigned (auto-scrub, buff/burnish, strip/refinish). Maintain custodial closets in a safe, clean and organized manner. Maintain cleaning equipment such as cleaning vacuum filters, changing belts, maintain brush heads, etc. Collect, transport, and dispose of trash and recycling per facility procedures; cleans windows, blinds, woodwork, stairwells and other tasks routinely when assigned or when observed. Clean elevator, rugs, tables, and desks. Accurately reports supply needs, equipment issues, and facility maintenance items. Completes required logs/checklists or work order entries as directed. Maintain professional conduct and appearance; work respectfully around employees and the public.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; plus six months commercial custodial experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
State of Ohio Driver License or equivalent required for all new hires.
