A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Monitors and maintains all physical facilities on a planned basis to ensure a safe, clean, well-maintained appearance. Maintains an inventory for all custodial supplies. Opens and closes school buildings and activates and disarms security alarm systems as assigned. Responsible for the general appearance and cleanliness of the buildings and grounds. Empties wastebaskets within designated areas; transport trash and waste to disposal area. Sweeps, mops, scrubs, and vacuums hallways, stairs, classrooms, shops, labs, lounge and office areas. Assembles, cleans, dusts, and maintains furniture, tables, chairs, equipment and other facility furnishings. Clean windows, blinds, doors, walls and window ledge as needed. Sweep sidewalks, entrances, and other exterior areas as needed. Clean, sweep, mop, and scrub bathrooms; refill soap, paper towel, and toilet paper dispensers. Assist with preparing facilities for special evets, meetings, and school activities. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Operations.

Education/Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively communicate and present information.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to use and understand basic mathematical skills.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
