JOB SUMMARY
The Night Shelter Janitor role carries a primary responsibility of cleaning the Night Shelter building. Additional areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to: completing the daily task list of cleaning, maintaining the general up keep and service of the building, receiving, ordering and storing supplies.
Shifts available include:
Daytime hours, full-time, including weekends Night/Evening hours, part-time, including weekends
RESPONSIBILITIES
Complete all tasks required to clean and maintain the shelter. Be available to assist any volunteers. Act as an advocate for guests, either by request or by seeking out those who are in need. Know the agency representative names that visit the shelter on a regular basis, including the off-duty officers.
Collaboration:
Coordinate and collaborate with other janitorial staff, volunteers, and agency staff to ensure consistent operation of the agency's facilities. Be willing to assist with janitorial tasks in all agency buildings if needed
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The employee will work in an office and public, service-delivery environment. Hectic situations can occur in the public areas of the facility characteristic to working with the homeless community and the related concerns and situations related to homeless conditions. Potential exists for volatile and unpredictable situations to occur. May experience exposure to strong odors such as soiled clothes and poor hygiene.
REQUIREMENTS
The ability to work flexibly to the differing demands of the role: working with people, managing work load in an appropriate manner and in the time frame given and dealing professionally with colleagues. Work responsibly and clean to a high standard Able to relate with people from a variety of different backgrounds: especially vulnerable, those with mental illness, substance abuse, etc. Be able to keep pace with the daily demands of the job IT Skills helpful not essential Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested in a professional, courteous, and helpful manner. Must be able to work weekends and holidays Must have reliable transportation
EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or GED preferred. Consideration is given to those with relevant experience
