Eastern Oregon University (EOU) is currently accepting applications for a Full-Time, 1.0 FTE, 12-month Custodian to work in the Facilities Department. The Custodian performs a variety of custodial duties to maintain the cleanliness, sanitation, safety, and general appearance of university facilities. Work assignments may include academic buildings, administrative offices, residence halls, athletic facilities, and other campus spaces. As the occasional point of first contact for students, staff, and the general public, and when working in teams with other Facilities and University personnel, Custodians have the responsibility for positive communication and productive teamwork in courteous personal and professional manners. Responsibilities Perform an array of custodial duties including sweeping, dust mopping, scrubbing, stripping, waxing and polishing floors; vacuum carpets and upholstered furniture; spot clean carpets; dust furnishings; clean walls, doors, mirrors, windows, and interior glass; remove cobwebs; clean fixtures and lighting surfaces; empty trash and recycling containers and transport contents to designated collection areas; clean classrooms, offices, lecture halls, labs, meeting spaces, residence hall common areas, athletic facilities, and other campus buildings; clean kitchenettes, laundry areas, and common spaces; and disinfect frequently touched surfaces. ; fill in for other custodians as required. Clean and disinfect all restroom facilities including toilets, urinals, sinks, showers, partitions, floors, walls, and fixtures; clean and polish mirrors and stainless fixtures; replenish restroom supplies including toilet paper, paper towels, soap dispensers, and other hygiene products; and ensure restroom areas meet sanitation and safety standards. Arrange and move furniture, tables, chairs, and equipment in classrooms, meeting rooms, and common areas as part of cleaning duties and room resets. Assist with building setups and general organization of interior spaces to maintain functional and orderly facilities. Clean and maintain stairways, entryways, hallways, and building entrances. Remove dirt, debris, snow, and ice from designated areas within the building perimeter to maintain safe access to campus facilities. During periods of heavy snowfall, may assist with snow removal in additional areas as directed. Set up and tear down tables, chairs, staging, and equipment for campus events and activities. Assist with campus moves and relocation of furniture and equipment between offices, classrooms, residence halls, and other campus buildings as needed. Perform minor repairs and light maintenance duties using common custodial or maintenance tools. Replace light bulbs, clear minor drain clogs, tighten loose hardware, and perform basic maintenance on custodial equipment. Report maintenance issues, facility deficiencies, or safety concerns to Facilities & Planning staff for repair. Follow established safety procedures and guidelines when handling cleaning chemicals and operating custodial equipment. Ensure proper mixing, storage, and use of cleaning products in accordance with Safety Data Sheets (SDS), OSHA standards, and university procedures. Make decisions related to prioritizing cleaning assignments within established work schedules, identifying and reporting safety hazards or maintenance concerns, coordinating work with other custodial staff and student employees when assigned, and maintaining positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Minimum Qualifications Physical ability to stand and walk on a consistent basis and be able to lift, push and pull up to 50 pounds; be able to climb ladders and use various lifts; be able to repeatedly bend, squat, and reach, twist hands, wrists, shoulders, waist and hips; and must have good hand dexterity including grasping, holding and repetitive movements. Ability to understand and obey all safe work practices and safety rules involving hazardous cleaning materials, proper lifting, walking surfaces, machine operating safety, emergency response and building regulations. Basic computer skills, good communication skills, both oral and written, reading skills, and positive interpersonal skills necessary for working with others in an effective team fashion. Must be able to follow instructions and receive supervision on a regular and frequent basis. Must satisfactorily complete EOU criminal and credential background check. Having a criminal history is not an automatic bar to employment.
