Job Duties Performs manual work in the custodial care of public, housing buildings and surrounding grounds. Responsible for janitorial work, ensuring the cleanliness of apartments, offices or buildings. Performs minor repairs. Washes, waxes, dusts and polishes floors, furniture and fixtures. Cleans and polishes metal; cleans lavatories and replaces lavatory supplies; disposed of waste paper; recycles appropriate materials; cleans carpets; cleans windows. Moves furniture and equipment. Shovels snow, sweeps and cleans walks, and assists in keeping immediate outside premises and building entrances in an orderly condition. Cuts grass with gasoline-powered mowers and weed eaters. Trims shrubbery, removes trash and performs other grounds keeping work as assigned. Performs simple repairs to building equipment, such as replacing light bulbs, plunging of sinks and toilets and replacing missing screws. Reports needed repairs to appropriate personnel. Compiles required maintenance and inventory reports including work and supply orders. Performs related work as required. Six-month probation period.
