8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., 5-6 days per week, with work every weekend and 1-2 days off during the week Job Description The Chocker is responsible for safely securing and releasing vehicles on carriers for transport. This role ensures vehicles are correctly positioned, chocked, and strapped, and that all work is performed in a safe, efficient, and compliant manner in an outdoor, industrial environment. Responsibilities Secure vehicles by placing and removing chocks on each car wheel in accordance with established procedures. Ensure the precise positioning of automobiles within carriers to maximize safety and efficiency. Apply and remove straps to secure vehicles in carriers, verifying that all vehicles are properly chocked and strapped before transport. At the arrival terminal, remove chocks and straps safely and systematically to prepare vehicles for unloading. Wear and use all required personal protective equipment while on duty and follow all safety rules and guidelines. Take personal responsibility for safety at all times, including awareness of surroundings, equipment, and moving vehicles. Work from written assignment sheets and accurately sign off work completed on printed forms. Read and interpret operational manuals and follow written procedures and instructions. Respond promptly and professionally to requests for service and assistance from supervisors and coworkers. Essential Skills Ability to clearly and persuasively communicate in both positive and challenging situations, including asking questions and seeking clarification when needed. Strong service orientation with the ability to respond effectively to requests for service and assistance. Demonstrated integrity and ethical conduct in daily work activities. Work Environment This position operates in an outdoor, industrial transportation environment around vehicle carriers, moving mechanical parts, and active rail or terminal operations. The noise level is usually moderate, with regular exposure to outside weather conditions and occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles. The role requires regular standing and walking, frequent climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, and lifting or moving loads up to 40 pounds regularly and up to 80 pounds occasionally. Must be willing to work in all weather conditions, as well as odd hours and split shifts that may include days, nights, and weekends. The position often requires working alone and unsupervised, and consistent use of required personal protective equipment is expected to maintain a safe working environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lorton, VA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $19.00/hr.
