Job Description

Haverford College invites applications for our full-time (40 hours per week), non-exempt, benefits-eligible Custodian opportunity. Total Compensation Hourly rate : $18

On Site. About the Housekeeping Division The Housekeeping Division is responsible for the cleaning of all administrative, academic, and residential buildings. The housekeeping staff also maintains common areas, i.e., stairways, hallways, and restrooms, bathroom facilities of the dormitories, and the entryways of faculty apartment buildings. Housekeeping service is not provided in student rooms or faculty housing units. Housekeeping services are provided on a scheduled basis. Typically, all spaces are cleaned daily seven days a week between 5:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Special cleaning programs such as floor restoration and carpet care are normally performed during periods when the academic program is in recess (i.e., Fall and Spring Breaks, between semesters, and during the summer). About the Position As a member of the Housekeeping team, the Custodian provides general and detailed cleaning services for campus buildings. The Custodian is an essential personnel position that is required to report to work during inclement weather or other times that non-essential personnel may be excused.
Primary Responsibilities Restroom Care:
Clean and sanitize toilets, sinks, showers, and other bathroom fixtures to meet health standards
Waste Management:
Remove trash and recycling from assigned areas and dispose of it according to university policy
Floor Maintenance:
Perform daily sweeping and mopping, as well as periodic tasks like floor stripping, waxing, and carpet shampooing
Room and Area Reset:
Arrange furniture and restock supplies to ensure areas are ready for classes, events, or resident use
General Cleaning:
Dust surfaces, vacuum carpets, mop floors, and clean windows to maintain appearance
Academic & Administrative Spaces:
Clean classrooms, offices, hallways, and stairways to provide a productive environment for students, faculty, and staff
Residential Areas:
Maintain communal spaces in dormitories, including lounges and bathrooms, and sometimes cleaning student rooms during breaks
Event Support:
Move furniture, clean up, and reset spaces for special events, lectures, and other campus activities
Safety and Compliance:
Follow safety procedures, including chemical handling and wearing personal protective equipment (PPE)
Communication:
Report maintenance issues and security concerns, and follow instructions from supervisors
Line of Report:
The Custodian role reports to a Housekeeping Supervisor who reports to the Manager of Housekeeping Services. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent (e.g., GED) Professional Competencies Attention to
Detail:
Vigilance in noticing spills, litter, or needed maintenance and reporting them promptly
Good Time Management Skills:
Working efficiently to meet productivity targets and complete tasks on schedule
Collaboration:
Ability to work with a team
Physical Stamina:
Ability to perform moderately heavy housekeeping tasks and move light furniture Preferred Qualifications Three years or more of experience in housekeeping Three years or more of floor care experience Special Requirements Ability to obtain and maintain PA Act 12 background checks Possession of a valid U.S. Drivers' License and ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Record check
