A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Job Description
Custodial Services at the University of Tennessee at Martin is currently accepting applications for an assistant custodial foreman. The normal work schedule is Monday through Friday, 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM, but shift subject to change (40 hours per week). This is a full-time position with benefits.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma and six months of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Experience and knowledge of custodial equipment, to include operation and safety.
- Experience and knowledge in the use and safety of cleaning chemicals.
- Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.
- Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively; able to interact positively with co-workers.
- Physical condition conducive to performance of labor tasks (this includes bending, reaching overhead, lifting as much as 50 pounds, stooping, climbing ladders to height of twenty feet, operating power washer, buffers, vacuums, shampoo machines and scrubbers).
- Must have good work and attendance record.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Supervisory experience in the custodial field for two or more years is preferred.

- Performs a variety of custodial duties in support of classroom and administrative operations, to create a clean and safe environment for students, staff, and visitors in the building. This includes, but is not limited to cleaning meeting rooms, public areas, restrooms, and pulling trash.
- Supervise and train student employees
- Floor maintenance including stripping and waxing floors, extracting carpets
- Technology hookups for events such as podiums with microphones, aux cords, VGA, HDMI, laptops, televisions, projectors
- Responsible for all custodial issues that may arise between 3 pm and 5 pm, after first shift ends and before second shift begins.
- Orders and maintains sufficient custodial supplies for the assigned areas(s).
- Reports any safety concerns to his/her immediate supervisor.
- May be required to assist in mowing duties.
