A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.
Open Until Filled Employment Opportunity Cleans and maintains offices, kitchens, conference rooms, restrooms and other areas in assigned facility or building. Cleans windows, vacuums, dusts, mops and waxes floors, empty trash cans, etc. Prepares rooms for meetings and events. Assures proper lighting within the buildings and replaces light bulbs as assigned. Moves furniture, office machines, sports equipment and other necessary items. Performs duties that include light physical effort such as bending, stopping, walking and climbing ladders. Lifts, on a regular basis, tools, equipment and supplies, weighing as much as 25 pounds and occasionally as much as 100 pounds. Performs duties that may include physical effort such as lifting, bending, stooping, and walking. Must work the days or nights and hours necessary to perform responsibilities as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Knowledge of the materials and practices used in the cleaning and maintenance of buildings and other facilities. Knowledge of and the ability to use custodial supplies and equipment and has an understanding of SDS documentation. Some knowledge of methods, materials and equipment used in custodial and grounds repairs and ability to recognize need for repairs. Must be able to follow specific and general instructions; learn and follow standard safety practices and procedures related to cleaning solutions. Must be able to understand and follow oral instructions and be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Must be able to develop and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and interact with the general public in a manner that demonstrates respect, integrity, courtesy and kindness. Must possess the ability to perform the physical work required. Some experience required in custodial work and maintenance. High School Diploma desired, but not required. Must maintain a valid Driver s License when driving a City vehicle is expected. Will observe all traffic regulations, follow City policy and be a safe, courteous and responsible driver while operating City vehicles. Must wear a seat belt and make certain that other passengers are in seatbelts when vehicle is in operation.
