A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Job Description

Utah Valley University is seeking part time Student Custodians for morning, day, and night shift opportunities. Under the direction of a Lead Custodian these positions perform custodial care. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Work under the supervision of a Lead Custodian and be responsible for a variety of tasks, including, but not limited to: emptying garbage cans, vacuuming, sweeping, and mopping. Complete tasks on a structured schedule and sometimes may be required to help cover for absent employees. Must be a current UVU student. Knowledge proper use and disposal of hazardous chemicals and products. Knowledge of body fluid cleanup and proper protection. Knowledge of proper radio communications. Knowledge of pest control. Knowledge of all floor types, such as terrazzo, cement, wood, vinyl and ceramic tile as well as carpet fibers, weaves and backings. Knowledge of waxes/polishes, acids, other chemicals, buffers, extractors, vacuums and scrubbers. Knowledge of current cleaning techniques and proper cleaning chemicals. Good interpersonal communication skills. Ability to withstand strenuous and adverse working conditions. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to perform skilled custodial duties, equipment maintenance, and minor plumbing.
