What they do

A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Job Description

General Statement of Duties Performs repetitive manual work requiring efficient performance of building cleaning and maintenance duties. Essential Duties
  • Strips, seals, waxes, and buffs floors
  • Scrubs and rinses floors in assigned area
  • Damp mops a variety of rooms (i.e., auditorium, library, halls, stairs, cafeteria, kitchens, locker rooms and mechanical equipment rooms)
  • Dusts a variety of rooms (i.e., auditorium, stage, library, halls, gym floors, and cafeteria)
  • Sweeps shops, stairs and entrance areas, locker room, bleachers, sidewalks, halls
  • Cleans and scrubs restrooms completely
  • Dusts rooms, offices, furniture and cupboards, and removes cobwebs
  • Empties and washes garbage cans
  • Attends work daily and be engaged and on task - regular attendance is required
  • Performs overtime work on a scheduled, unscheduled, routine or emergency basis, as assigned
  • Performs other duties as assigned Additional Information This vacancy is open until filled and is available for the 26-27SY.
This is a 12 month, 4 hours per day, 260 day position. Minimum hourly rate is $17.63 Salary is prorated based on official start date. Work hours are 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Henrico County Schools reserves the right to begin screening applications and make a selection at any time during the posting period. Applicants are encouraged to apply as early as possible, as positions may be filled prior to the posted closing date. Minimum Requirements Grade school completion. Knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies and equipment; ability to use cleaning supplies and equipment economically, efficiently, and safely; ability to follow simple oral and written directions. Good physical condition required. Ability to work at high altitudes using scaffolds, ladders, etc.
