Job Duties and Preferred Qualifications :
Come join the City of Virginia Beach Facilities team as a Custodial Worker! We are looking for a dependable, hardworking individual who takes pride in maintaining clean, safe, and welcoming City facilities. This position performs a variety of custodial, and facility support duties and is ideal for someone who can work independently, manage daily responsibilities, and provide quality service to City employees and visitors.
Duties include:
Clean assigned areas daily and ensure facilities are maintained according to established cleanliness standards. Promptly address cleaning or maintenance concerns identified through inspections or by supervisors. Work cooperatively and respectfully with coworkers, supervisors, City employees, and facility users. Drive a City-owned vehicle to deliver custodial supplies and materials to various facilities. Lift, carry, and move supplies, equipment, and materials weighing 50 pounds or more. Vacuum and extract carpets using industrial cleaning equipment to remove dirt, debris, and stains. Clean, buff, strip, and wax resilient flooring, including terrazzo, vinyl composition tile (VCT), ceramic tile, and similar surfaces. Duties include sweeping, mopping, and scrubbing. Dust furniture, file cabinets, shelves, woodwork, and other surfaces. Clean windows, windowsills, blinds, and similar areas. Empty trash and recycling containers and transport materials to designated outside receptacles or dumpsters. Clean and disinfect restroom fixtures, walls, and floors to maintain sanitary conditions and control odors. Polish furniture, brass, and other surfaces as appropriate. Clean vents, light fixtures, and other elevated areas, which may require the use of a ladder. Open and unlock City buildings prior to normal working hours as assigned. Set up meeting rooms and other areas and ensure spaces are properly prepared for scheduled meetings and events. Minimum Qualifications:
Requires completion of a standard grade school course or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities associated with such positions as janitor, custodian, or custodial worker. May require a current and valid driver's license.
Special Requirements:
All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Must be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime when required to meet operational needs. Successful completion of a pre-employment physical.

E VRS Contribution :
All full-time employees are required to contribute 5% of annual salary toward their retirement account; in accordance with VRS retirement provisions. This will be handled through a pre-tax payroll deduction.
