Custodian
JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary:
The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment throughout the Boys & Girls Club facility. This position performs routine custodial duties including cleaning program spaces, common areas, restrooms, gymnasium, and other shared spaces to ensure a positive experience for youth, families, staff, and visitors. The Custodian works independently and plays a critical role in supporting the daily operations of the Club by maintaining facility cleanliness, safety, and organization. Part-time, hourly position (approximately 20 hours per week)- Reports directly to the Director of Operations
- Approximate schedule: primarily outside of operating hours with some flexibility, early morning or late evening Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: Facility Cleaning & Maintenance
- Perform routine cleaning of program spaces, hallways, restrooms, lobby, gymnasium, conference rooms, common areas, and other shared spaces
- Vacuum carpets, sweep and mop floors, dust surfaces, and clean windows and glass entryways
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, including sinks, toilets, mirrors, fixtures, and floors
- Empty trash and recycling receptacles and ensure proper disposal of waste
- Maintain cleanliness and presentation of high-traffic areas throughout the facility
- Conduct routine inspections of facility spaces and address cleanliness concerns as needed
- Assist with seasonal deep-cleaning projects and facility-wide cleaning initiative Supplies & Facility Support
- Restock restroom, cleaning, and custodial supplies as needed
- Monitor inventory levels of cleaning supplies and communicate supply needs to the Director of Operations
- Properly store custodial equipment and cleaning products in designated areas
- Ensure cleaning equipment is maintained, and report equipment concerns promptly Grounds & Safety
- Maintain cleanliness around building entrances, sidewalks, playgrounds, and other exterior areas
- Pick up litter and assist with basic grounds upkeep to promote a safe and welcoming environment
- Identify and report facility safety concerns, maintenance issues, or needed repairs to the Director of Operations.
- Follow established safety procedures and proper use of cleaning chemicals and equipment Team Collaboration
- Work cooperatively with Club staff to minimize disruptions to programs and operations
- Support facility readiness for special events, rentals, and activities as needed
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism while working in a youth-serving environment Additional Responsibilities include the following:
- Inclement weather support such as clearing sidewalks
- Attend staff meetings as required
- Perform and support other duties and assignments as directed by management
Qualifications:

- Previous custodial, janitorial, housekeeping, or facility cleaning experience preferred
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Access to reliable transportation
- Ability to pass required background screenings Skills and Knowledge
- Knowledge of custodial cleaning methods, products, and equipment
- Ability to safely operate cleaning equipment such as vacuums, floor cleaning equipment, and other custodial tools
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high cleanliness standards
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively
- Ability to identify and communicate facility needs and safety concerns
- Dependable, self-motivated, and able to work independently
- Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain supply inventories
- Commitment to creating a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for youth and families Physical Requirements/Work Environment
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time
- Ability to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and climb
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds
- Ability to operate custodial equipment and cleaning tools safely
- Ability to perform repetitive cleaning tasks throughout the workday
- Work is performed primarily within a youth-serving facility, including program spaces, gymnasium, restrooms, offices, and common areas
- Position may require early morning, evening, or occasional weekend hours
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, and varying indoor and outdoor conditions
- Requires adherence to all Boys & Girls Club safety policies and procedures
- Frequent movement throughout a 35,500-square-foot facility
