A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Job Description

Under the direction of the Facilities Manager, this position is responsible for the general cleaning and maintenance of the Government Center. This is a part-time position working 22.5 hours per week. Preferable schedule is working 3 days per week at 7.5 hours per day. The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. Sweep, scrub, mop, vacuum, strip, and wax floors Shampoo carpets/rugs Operate floor machine Clean windows (interior and exterior), including work that may require ladder use or elevated access Ensure grounds areas are clean and orderly Empty trash receptacles and collect recycling Clean, sanitize, and supply bathrooms Clean and service custodial equipment as needed Perform minor repairs on furniture, buildings, and equipment Report any safety, sanitary, or fire hazards to the appropriate department Lock and unlock windows, doors, and gates Perform all other duties as assigned High School Diploma or equivalency Experience performing housekeeping and janitorial tasks Knowledge of lawn care and snow removal Trustworthy and able to maintain confidentiality Ability to understand and follow standard practices and instructions, keep routine records and use a computer terminal.
