JOB DESCRIPTION CUSTODIAN JOB SUMMARY
Cleans, maintains and operates the building, physical plant and cleaning and maintenance equipment. Supports a learning environment that promotes student success, and their safety and health. Supports teachers in maintaining classroom space, daily. Supports school events by assisting in team set up, tear down and cleanup both inside and outside the building. Models professional, courteous, and helpful behavior for students and staff. Assists in school security. Accepts direction from District Administrators and Building Engineers to accomplish assigned work.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
: 1. Cleans and maintains all assigned areas (all assigned areas are listed on the current custodial area diagram of the school) per custodial standards. a. Maintains assigned entrances and stairwells. b. Assists with grounds cleaning and trash pickup. c. Performs complete summer and deep cleaning as assigned. d. Performs minor repairs as necessary and documents repairs using the School Dude maintenance management system. e. Assists in the maintenance of lawns, landscaping, concrete and blacktop surfaces and playgrounds, including pedestrian walkways snow and ice removal. f. Assists with the setting up and tearing down of events both inside and outside the school as directed. g. Takes initiative to work as a team as to complete the cleaning of the entire facility. h. Assists students and staff as necessary. 2. Maintains a safe working environment. a. Complies with District, State, and Federal (OSHA) safety standards to maintain a safe work environment. b. Inspects and maintains school for safety, promptly reporting any concerns that cannot be immediately corrected. c. Respond to emergency situations as directed by an Administrator. d. Utilizes personal protective equipment as necessary. e. Monitors and controls use of energy and corrects or reports situations that expend energy. f. Assists with school security measures and procedures under the direction of Administration. g. Locks and secures facilities by setting security systems as directed. 3. Performs additional duties as assigned by Engineers, Principals, or Administration. a. Works a revised schedule and substitutes for other custodial staff when necessary. b. Attends mandatory training and professional learning activities applicable to position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience working as a custodian.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
1. Capable on a continuous basis of: bending/stooping, standing/walking, reaching, grasping, gripping, and utilizing repetitive movements of both hands, carrying (up to 50 pounds), talking, seeing with both near and far visual acuity, have depth perception, good field of vision, hearing and feel. 2. Capable on a frequent basis of: squatting, reaching full range (up to 180 degrees), pushing from between floor and waist height (up to 75 pounds), and pulling from between floor and waist height (up to 50 pounds). 3. Capable on an occasional basis of: climbing, lifting from floor to waist (up to 100 pounds), lifting from shoulder to overhead (up to 35 pounds).
