Job Summary New River Community and Technical College is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Custodian to maintain the cleanliness, safety, and overall upkeep of campus facilities. This position ensures a clean, sanitary, and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors by performing a variety of custodial and facility support duties. This position is classified as essential personnel . Employees in this role may be required to work during inclement weather or emergency situations to maintain safe campus operations. •This is an evening shift position• Nature of Work The Custodian is responsible for cleaning, maintaining, and assisting with the upkeep of buildings, fixtures, facilities, and surrounding grounds. Duties may include routine custodial work as well as assisting with facility support tasks. This position may require travel between New River campuses or instructional sites . Key Responsibilities Cleaning and Sanitizing Clean and sanitize restrooms including sinks, toilets, and mirrors Refill supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper Sweep, mop, vacuum, and dust classrooms, hallways, offices, stairwells, and common areas Trash and Recycling Empty trash and recycling containers and dispose of waste properly Replace liners in trash receptacles as needed Floor Care Perform routine floor maintenance including sweeping, mopping, and buffing Operate floor care equipment such as auto scrubbers and floor buffers Window and Surface Cleaning Clean windows, glass doors, and other surfaces Remove fingerprints, dust, and smudges General Maintenance Support Report maintenance or repair issues such as leaking fixtures or damaged equipment to the Facilities Supervisor Assist with moving furniture and setting up spaces for meetings or campus events Assist with closing and securing campus facilities when required Safety and Compliance Follow health and safety regulations regarding cleaning products and equipment Properly store cleaning supplies and materials Promptly address spills, hazards, or safety concerns Other Duties Perform additional custodial tasks or special projects as assigned by the Facilities Supervisor Professional Development Complete required compliance training in a timely manner Participate in professional development opportunities through LinkedIn Learning and other professional resources Qualifications Minimum Requirements High School Diploma or GED Ability to follow verbal and written instructions Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods Preferred Qualifications Previous custodial or janitorial experience Skills and Abilities Knowledge of proper cleaning techniques and safe use of cleaning chemicals Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds Ability to climb stairs and ladders Ability to work in various environments including restrooms, stairwells, classrooms, and outdoor areas Equal Opportunity Statement
