A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: General Cleaning Duties Sweep, mop, vacuum, and dust floors, carpets, and surfaces. Clean and sanitize restrooms, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, and floors. Empty trash receptacles and replace liners. Wash windows, walls, and glass surfaces as needed. Sanitation & Disinfection Disinfect high-touch surfaces (e.g., doorknobs, light switches, handrails). Use approved cleaning agents and disinfectants according to safety guidelines. Maintain cleanliness in food preparation areas (lunchroom). Equipment & Supplies Operate cleaning equipment such as floor scrubbers, buffers, and vacuums. Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and request replenishments when needed. Ensure proper storage and labeling of chemicals and supplies. Compliance & Safety Follow safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Comply with company policies, OSHA standards, and sanitation regulations. Report maintenance issues, hazards, or repairs needed to supervisors. Routine & Special Tasks Perform scheduled deep cleaning tasks (e.g., carpet shampooing, pressure washing). Assist with setting up and cleanup for events or facility changes. Respond to emergency cleanups (e.g., spills, biohazards) promptly and safely. Assist with special projects as needed (painting, minor repairs, etc)
EDUCATION
Required:
High School diploma or GED equivalent
Skills:
Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds continuously throughout the shift. Work involves continuous lifting, bending, reaching, and twisting.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
(if applicable):. This position requires the cognitive and mental ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail. Ability to pass written testing requirements in numeric, visual, verbal comp, space visualization, and work orientation
