A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level. Responsible for general cleaning, vacuuming floors and furniture, emptying trash and recycling containers, dusting, mopping, sanitizing, washing windows and mirrors, and cleaning/stocking restrooms, bathrooms, and offices. Learns where custodial supplies are kept and replenishes supplies when needed. Observes and identifies areas that need repair and submits information to the supervisor. Complies with state and federal policies such as OSHA and EPA. Operates and maintains equipment, including vacuums, riding floor cleaners, floor buffers, carpet cleaners, and hand and shop tools. Moves furniture and sets up conference rooms for meetings and events. Performs designated watchman rounds to ensure security and safety, checks building systems for proper function, and updates security logs. Performs chemical renovations. Monitors fire protection systems. May assist with outside building and grounds duties such as trash and snow removal.
PREFERENCES
Preference will be given to applicants with prior experience working with PPE, emergency procedures, cleaning methods, cleaning materials, and chemicals.
KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of materials, supplies, equipment, and methods of more technical cleaning and maintenance. Knowledge of power and manual tools. Knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High School Diploma Experience:
0-6 months of progressive work experience (typically in Building and Grounds)
OR Education & Experience Substitution:
1-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Building and Grounds)

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
: Exposure to hazardous materials, bodily fluids, chemicals, biohazards, and elements. Must be able to drive vehicles and operate large, complex cleaning and grounds maintenance equipment. This is a daytime position. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
