Position Location Palmer, AK Job Overview Directly supervises cooks and assistant cooks during assigned periods. Responsible for preparation and coordination of all Center meals within established budget allowances and in accordance with preplanned menus that are in compliance with government, corporate, and management directives.
Pay:
$25.87/hour plus an additional $5.09/hour (up to maximum of 40 hours per week) used to offset the cost of elected benefits
Hours:
Tues-Sat, 10:30am-7:00pm
Retirement Plan:
Eligible to participate in company 401(k) with Company matching after 1 year
Vacation:
Minimum of ten days per year. Actual days are based upon your Service Date
Sick Time:
Accrued sick time at 1 hour per 30 hours worked, capped at 56 hours per year
Holidays:
12 paid holidays per year.
Responsibilities Essential Job Duties:
Provide alternate shift supervision of cafeteria services including cooks and assistant cooks. Coordinate and prepare quantity of food required according to the menu and number of students. Assist in instructing cooks and assistant cooks in the safe, hygienic methods of preparing appetizing, eye-appealing meals. Ensure minimum waste through efficient storage, inventory, and food utilization. Assist in cleaning kitchen work areas following each meal. Assist in supervising work support and culinary arts students assigned to the cafeteria. Help maintain kitchen equipment in orderly workable condition. Ensure work area and all other areas of the cafeteria are safe, clean, and sanitary at all times. Assist in replenishing stock room supplies and commodities as needed.
Job Requirements Mandatory:
High School Diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED). Food service training or four (4) years related experience. Must be able to obtain a Food Handler's certificate with 30 days of employment. Successfully pass background check and drug test required on the contract.
Preferred:
Previous experience in a commercial or institutional kitchen.
Supervisory Experience Working Conditions:
Work is performed primarily in an office setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet. Have a high level of social contact. They work closely with students and other office staff. Communicate with people daily by telephone, e-mail, and in person. Are occasionally placed in conflict situations in which others may become rude or unpleasant. Work as part of a team.
Physical Requirements:
This position requires the employee to be able to frequently required to sit, stand, walk and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. Work somewhat close to other people, such as when sharing office space. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
