Job Summary The Sushi Helper supports the sushi chef in daily preparation, organization, and service of sushi items while maintaining high standards of cleanliness, food safety, and efficiency. This role is ideal for individuals interested in learning sushi preparation in a fast-paced restaurant environment. Key Responsibilities Assist the sushi chef with food preparation, including washing, peeling, cutting, and portioning ingredients Prepare basic items such as rice, vegetables, garnishes, and simple sushi components Restock sushi station with necessary ingredients and supplies throughout service Maintain cleanliness and organization of the sushi bar, prep areas, and storage spaces Properly store ingredients according to food safety and sanitation guidelines Wash, sanitize, and maintain sushi tools, knives, cutting boards, and equipment Dispose of food waste properly and keep work areas free of clutter Follow all health, safety, and sanitation regulations Assist with inventory checks and notify management when supplies are low Support the sushi chef during busy service periods as needed Qualifications & Skills Previous kitchen or food service experience required Strong attention to detail and cleanliness Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment Willingness to learn and take direction Good communication and teamwork skills Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 30-40 pounds Basic understanding of food safety and hygiene Work Environment Fast-paced restaurant kitchen and sushi bar setting Exposure to cold temperatures (refrigerators/freezers) Repetitive tasks and physical movement required Growth Opportunities Training in sushi preparation and knife skills Potential advancement to Sushi Chef Apprentice or Junior Sushi Chef with experience
